Sex Pistols' John Lydon to be Honored as BMI Icon at 2013 BMI London Awards

Broadcast Music, Inc.(BMI), the global leader in music rights management, have announced they will present the BMI Icon Award to music legend John Lydon at its annual BMI London Awards.

                                              Music legend - John Lydon

The BMI Icon designation is given to songwriters who have had "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." John Lydon joins an elite list of past honorees that includes 2011 recipient Queen, as well as Ray Davies, Steve Winwood, Van Morrison, Donovan, Don Black and Bryan Ferry, among others.

"John Lydon is a true icon whose influence on music, fashion and art has been felt around the world. We are very pleased to recognize his impact on popular culture and his outstanding musical contributions with the BMI Icon Award," said Del Bryant, BMI President and Chief Executive Officer.

Lydon initiated the punk movement in the U.K. in the mid 1970s with the Sex Pistols and later led the post-punk and experimental charge with Public Image Ltd (PiL). He was also responsible for a brand new cultural shift in British society at that time through fashion, visual arts and performance, sparking controversy and conversation that still resonates today.

As frontman of the Sex Pistols, Lydon penned singles including "Anarchy in the UK," "God Save the Queen," "Pretty Vacant," and "Holidays in the Sun," taken from the band's only album in 1977, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols.

Lydon left the Pistols in 1978 to form his own band, Public Image Ltd, which produced eight studio albums and a host of singles including "Public Image," "Death Disco," "This Is Not A Love Song," "Rise" and "Warrior", which consistently hit the U.K. Top 40 and inspired countless musicians, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Massive Attack. Lydon and Public Image Ltd also released their first album in 20 years in 2012, in the shape of This Is PiL, to huge critical acclaim, adding yet another chapter to the unique PiL story.

BMI represents the songs mentioned above and many others from John Lydon's legendary catalog in the United States. Lydon is a member of British performing rights society PRS for Music.

The BMI London Awards recognizes the U.K. and European songwriters and publishers of the past year's most-performed songs on radio and television in the United States.

Justin Bieber Drug Test Challenge!

It has been noted of late, the residents of the exclusive gated community that Justin Bieber also lives in, are rather fed up of all the, widely reported, disturbances in the neighborhood, caused by "The Biebs" and/or his "house mates". And now a drugs testing company, IDenta Corp., have offered a solution to their woes, some drugs testing kits, AND a financial REWARD, to those frustrated Calabasas residents, to perhaps catch Bieber out, in order for him and his friends, to be evicted from the community.  All the neighbors have to do is use the kit provided, to prove drugs were brought onto the property (a major violation of the well-to-do community's rules).

Justin Bieber looking not quite so baby baby baby faced...!

Here is the letter so you can see for yourself, how creative this company was in getting on the bandwagon, so to speak:

June 25th

Dear residents of The Oaks of Calabasas Community,

It has been brought to our attention that your neighbor, Mr. Justin Bieber, has made little or no effort to respect homeowners around him. While his cars continue to be spotted racing around local streets (we have your back, Keyshawn), music blaring late into the night, and his posse (including Lil Za & Lil Twist, not Selena Gomez or Ed Sheeran) terrorizing the community – it simply isn’t enough to keep surveillance on him, and threaten him to stop paying the $1,000 per month for various amenities in the luxury community.

To keep Mr. Bieber and his shenanigans in line, we have included in this package 100 IDenta Touch&Know drug tests. They are the first non-biological drug testing kit offered by a retailer in the United States and can analyze 22 of society’s most endemic and problematic illicit substances (which news reports suggest Biebs knows something about).

Without having to manually handle the substance, the IDenta Touch&Know unit enables users to test the smallest amount of substance, providing immediate results without putting themselves in harm’s way.
We would like to offer all residents of the Calabasas Community the units, so they can take matters into their own hands, and send Bieber packing for good.

If a drug substance can be tested positive from the Bieb’s property, car, etc. we will write you a check for $50,000 for your troubles along with helping you make sure Justin can never open the communities doors again.

Sincerely,

The Touch & Know Team (IDenta Corp.)

Really??  We this is an unBelieberbal (sorry, couldn't resist!)... Good luck to the Calabasas residents on your quest!!!

Gongs for Ben Affleck's Argo - Highlights of the BAFTA's 2013

Argo beat the competition to take the gong for Best Film at this year's BAFTAs, with Skyfall awarded Outstanding British Film. Leading Actor went to Daniel Day Lewis for Lincoln, Emmanuelle Riva was named Leading Actress for Michael Haneke's Amour, while Christoph Waltz and Anne Hathaway walked away with the awards for Supporting Actor and Actress respectively. Although it garnered the most nominations overall, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln did not receive one for Best Director. That award went to Ben Affleck for Argo.

The 2013 BAFTA award nominations were notable for their variety and quality, representing big-budget blockbusters, stunning international cinema and left-field independent films. The awards were always predicted to be "a wide open race", and this, to quote BAFTA's chairman Michael Willis, "really reflects the health of cinema throughout the world."

Stephen Fry hosted the evening, and a stellar list of nominees and leading members from the film industry were in attendance, including Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway, George Clooney, Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Steven Spielberg, Sam Mendes and Jennifer Lawrence.
Hollywood producer Rebecca Wang attended in her capacity as a member of the Academy Circle, which constitutes the charitable side of BAFTA. She is strongly committed to a proactive role in enabling, encouraging and supporting all art forms of creative talent across the film industry.

In addition to the high-profile awards ceremonies held annually in London, Los Angeles and New York,
BAFTA runs a year-round Learning and Events programme aimed at audiences of all ages and backgrounds across the UK and USA.  The programme offers unique access via workshops, master classes, lectures and mentoring schemes to some of the world's most inspiring talent.

The Academy has also in recent years extended the range of access to resources that inform and inspire. Its online archive is a treasure trove of features, photographs and interviews.

The 66th BAFTAs took place at London's Royal Opera House on Sunday 10th February, and a post-ceremony dinner was hosted at the Grosvenor House Hotel.  A bit of Hollywood in London...

About BAFTA
The BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards are the Academy's highest film honours, rewarding the best work of any nationality seen on British screens over the previous year. An independent charity, BAFTA also aims "to support, develop and promote the art form of the moving image by identifying and rewarding excellence, inspiring practitioners, and benefitting the public."
